Researchers from one of the largest universities in Russia (Voronezh) obtained compostable synthetic plastic based on polyvinyl alcohol. The material has the properties of tetra pack and combines the positive properties of degradable and non-degradable packaging.
Such pack can be recycled mixed with organic waste. The polymer is preliminarily decomposed into small fragments and organic fertilizers are obtained as a result of bioconversion.
It is supposed that the developed dry compostable plastics can be used to pack dry and frozen food products. It is a substitute for polystyrene substrates that are currently not recyclable.
