Scientists at a Russian university have developed a method for recycling plastic waste containing polypropylene into diesel fuel.
A chemical process for splitting the carbon skeleton and saturating the substance with hydrogen was used to obtain diesel fuel. Scientists have grinded plastic firstly and then have processed it in a special organic solution, obtaining liquid saturated hydrocarbons that are part of diesel fuel. The temperature regime was experimentally set at 320 degrees Celsius.
In the future the developed technology can be applied at waste processing plants, as well as at enterprises producing plastic for waste disposal. The diesel fuel can be used for railway transport, trucks, buses, water transport, military equipment.
