A polymer that can increase its volume under the influence of an electricity has been synthesized

Researchers of one of the Sweden’s largest universities have discovered a unique conductive polymer that can change its volume by more than 100 times during changing its phase.

The increase happens when the material is placed in an electrolyte and subjected to a weak electric voltage, and the polymer begins to compress almost to its original volume under the influence of a negative voltage.

Using new material, scientists have developed a smart sponge, the pore size of which they can control electronically. According to them, such a dynamically variable filter can be used in production, medicine, biochemistry.
